Smoking ban in cars with kids to be aired

BANGOR - At its meeting on Monday, the Bangor City Council will consider a proposed ordinance to ban smoking in cars within the city limits when children are present.
Bangor would become the first municipality in Maine to enact such a measure, if the proposal wins the council’s approval.
The ordinance already has garnered the support of the Bangor Region Chamber of Commerce and a number of medical, public health and business leaders. It also has drawn fire in the "reader comments" section of the Bangor Daily News Web site, primarily from smokers who protest it as an invasion of privacy.
Maine has taken steps to protect adults from coming in contact with secondhand smoke through bans on smoking in most public areas, including work sites, restaurants and bars. But according to Dr. Jonathan Shenkin, a children’s health advocate and the proposal’s primary sponsor, these measures do not protect children from the harmful effects of breathing smoke-contaminated air when they’re confined in a vehicle. more…

If you think you are eligible for minority scholarships, then do not hesitate to fill out the application forms. Sometimes, it is the fear of rejection that stops students from trying to fulfill their dreams. However there are numerous scholarships and opportunities to apply for them so you should avail of them at any chance.
