Smoking Ban

Back seat children breathing in the toxic air for your second hand smoke. At its meeting Monday

night, the Bangor City Council will consider a proposed ordinance to ban smoking in cars with

in city limits when children are present. The ordinance already garnered the support of the

Bangor Region Chamber of Commerce and a number of medical, public health, and business

leaders. Similar measures have been adopted by the states of Arkansas and Louisiana and are

under consideration in several other states. Violations could result in a $50 fine, but only as a

secondary offence.

Smoking with children in the car …. good idea?? NO . If your going to smoke in the car

with yours babies why won’t you just hand them the cigarette let them smoke a little with you .

There’s not much of a difference your just getting all the good stuff. Wondering why your child

is sick well maybe cause your giving them a second hand smoke disease! Yes hurting your own

child, will it hurt you that much to wait until their not in the car with you ? It’s a choice you must

make I would rather have healthy happy children.

Smokers may feel they are getting all their rights taken away , but it’s for the protection of

the people . Maine has taken steps to protect adults from coming in contact with secondhand

smoke through bans on smoking in most public areas including work sites, restaurants, and bars

But according to Dr. Jonathan Shenkin, a children’s health advocate and the proposal’s primary

sponsor, these measures do not protect children from the harmful effects of breathing smoke-

contaminated air when they’re confined in a vehicle.

A few may say its my life so stay out of it but what about that infant in the car with you,

its that babies life to and its not your place to mess up that child’s breathing cause you want to

smoke. Think about the harm you could be putting on the poor child.
